I won’t lie to you, I don’t know a darn thing about quilting. I never thought about trying it, I never thought it was something I would like doing. However, as I’m sure you are by now aware, we are soon launching our sister site FaveQuilts and I have been browsing around some of the projects trying to see just what kind of quilting people are doing. And I have to admit I got a little excited about the idea of making a quilt! I mean, I already sew so this can’t be that hard to pick up. I found a couple projects that I think I can handle putting together.
This Easiest Ever Panel Quilt definitely looks like something I can handle. And I love how the actual quilt comes out looking like something from an Anthropologie catalog.
This Apple Core Throw also looks like something I couldn’t easily mess up and it’s just too cute! I would love to have it handy at one end of my couch for those colder evenings.
Well, after I found these projects I realized that I would need some supplies to get started. So I went to the trusty CutRateCrafts site to browse around and, of course, I was not disappointed.
This Slash Rotary Cutter would make getting the apple core shapes I need much, much easier.I love the different size guards that it comes with to make slash cutting easier.
Of course, every quilting gal needs a good ruler and this Easy Circle Cut is one I don’t already have as I don’t usually cut a whole lot of small circular shapes when I’m sewing. I can see how this would come in handy when cutting fabric for quilting or applique.
But the Easy Circle Cut won’t really be that handy when I need to cute straight lines, so I found this TrueCut Ruler. I already have something similar, but this one is bigger so I like it better. Besides, one can never have too many different rulers for cutting fabric. I know I would use it all the time.
And finally, a little something you may not know about me. I love stars. They are one of my favorite shapes, so much so that when I was younger I almost got a row of them tattooed on my forearm (good thing I never went through with it). Naturally, when I saw the cover of this book I was taken in immediately. I love the pretty star pattern on the front and the pretty patterns inside are for a beginner. I know that FaveQuilts is a great resource for finding new and fun quilting projects, but I also like having the crafting books laying around so I don’t have to turn on my computer. So Quilt In A Day- Stars & Crosses has definitely been added to my shopping cart.
I’m excited to get started with my quilting adventures. Part of me thinks this is going to be more difficult than I think, but hopefully the right tools will make it a little easier.
Are a lot of you quilters?
